# Starship Captain - Build 1 Milestone

Date: 2026-05-26

## Build 1 Summary

Build 1 marks the first playable management prototype checkpoint for Starship Captain.

The game now has the core shape of a ship-command management loop:

1. Manage crew.
2. Assign crew to rooms.
3. Rooms produce or support ship systems.
4. Missions consume fuel and reward credits.
5. Stations offer contracts, fuel, food, and recruitable crew.
6. The ship can switch between ship view and map view.

## Current Playable Systems

- Ship view with imported prototype ship art.
- Map view with station, asteroid, and planet targets.
- Crew members with roles, XP, levels, and individual skills.
- Crew assignment by selecting crew and clicking rooms.
- Room capacity and room efficiency.
- Rooms for Bridge, Engineering, Cargo, Crew Quarters, Weapons, Storage, Captain Cabin, Marine Barracks, Galley, Life Support, and Corridors.
- Crew Quarters prototype capacity increased to 10.
- Food, oxygen, fuel, credits, and power resources.
- Station service buttons for buying fuel and food.
- Recruit board with different crew offers.
- Mission board with contract buttons.
- Mission result popup.
- Room details panel showing what each room does by itself and with crew assigned.
- Left command tabs for Crew, Rooms, Captain, and Ship.
- F2 room layout edit mode with movable/resizable room overlays and custom corridors.

## Design Direction Locked In

- Credits come from missions, trade, salvage, mining, and events rather than passive room generation.
- Food is a stored supply bought, traded, looted, or later produced by special systems. The Galley manages food use and morale rather than creating food from nothing.
- Engineering handles power and future repair/mechanic actions.
- Power should matter for missions and future combat.
- Crew skills should matter more than simple crew count.
- The Captain tab will later hold captain portrait, identity, background, and command bonuses.

## Next Stage

The next development stage should focus on:

1. Making resources affect gameplay more clearly.
2. Adding hull condition and Engineering repair actions.
3. Cleaning the crew details UI.
4. Expanding mission/event variety.
5. Adding room upgrade and storage/cargo expansion logic.
